Can i copy movies or videos from my computer to a blank cd and play them on a dvd player?

-for example if i drag a movie (lets say .avi file) to a blank cd then put the cd in a ps2 or a dvd player, will the movie play?Maybe. There is such a thing as VCD, and it was the standard for storing video on an optical disk before DVD became big. Most DVD players and some consoles can read them, but you have to convert the video into the correct format first, since not all hardware can read all formats. If you already know that the container / codecs in your video are supported by your player, then you might be able to drag and drop an avi file right onto it and have it play. Otherwise, you'll need to use some sort of conversion software beforehand, which is more likely.

If you decide that you need to convert the video first, you'll obviously need to know what to convert it into. I got you some Wikipedia links that give this sort of information. Note that if you have to scale down the video by a significant margin, you may be better off converting it to DVD-Video, and putting it on a DVD, since the quality will be much better.

Edit: A bit of background. There are a lot of different ways to store video and audio data in a movie. When you play it, the device you play it on uses a piece of software called a codec to decode this information. On a computer, you can install any number of codecs that you need. But on something like a DVD player, this isn't usually possible. So you would look up which codecs the player already has, and you would convert your video into that so the player will know how to decode it.
Of course you can. Here I recommend you to use Dup-DVD. Dup-DVD lets you back up/copy DVD to CD-R discs. It supports DVD to VCD/SVCD, DVD to MPEG, DVD to AVI. With this one-click DVD ripper, it couldn't be easier to back up your video collections. For more information, please go to http://www.opencloner.com/products.html However, CD discs can not be played back on a DVD player, so you鈥檇 better copy your movies on a DVD disc. For DVD copying, you can have a try of DVD-Cloner. For more information about DVD-Cloner, you can go to http://www.dvd-cloner.com
No it won't play. You have to convert the file to another format and have to write properly using a burning software.
Hello, dear, u need a dvd burning tool to help you copy the movie content into a blank dvd.
No! For videos, you have to use a blank DVD instead of CD. CD disc is mostly for music and file.
you would need a writable DVD, not a CD and the optical drive in your computer would need to be able to burn DVDs
You need to use dvd burning software. you cant dray the file directly.
