Can i copy movies or videos from my computer to a blank cd and play them on a dvd player?

Most DVD players and some consoles can read them, but you have to convert the video into the correct format first, since not all hardware can read all formats. If you already know that the container / codecs in your video are supported by your player, then you might be able to drag and drop an avi file right onto it and have it play. Otherwise, you'll need to use some sort of conversion software beforehand, which is more likely.

When you play it, the device you play it on uses a piece of software called a codec to decode this information. On a computer, you can install any number of codecs that you need. But on something like a DVD player, this isn't usually possible. No it won't play. You have to convert the file to another format and have to write properly using a burning software.
