-Hi everyone.
Well, I am still learning Linux and trying to explore some of the distributions available. I have tried
..Ubuntu (didnt like it)
..Linux Mint (liked it), the screen brightness Fn + up/down arrows never worked, everytime I wanted to change the brightness I had to do it from the terminal. ( which is super hard to figure out when you have no idea what you are doing)..lol... MUCHO linux community asking and researching...
...Fedora ( couldnt get it to work right) would like to try again.. I have the ISO on a dvd
... havent tried it but I'm thinking of trying Mandriva
I know to each his own and everything like that but just wanted to see what you guys are using and
has anyone had good luck using Linux on Samsung notebooks?I know you tried Ubuntu but you probably used the Unity format(which sucks).
There are classifications let me explain:
Formats:
KDE- closest to windows so it is boring.
XFCE- Great for old or under powered computers.
GNOME- My favorite and best most modern looking.
UNITY- Ubuntu uses this I hate it.
Distros:
Ubuntu- I believe the best and most stable.
LM11- great for people who want something like windows
Fedora- sucks used it for 10 minutes got 2 errors
OpenSUSE- uses gnome 3 I will explain later why you should not choose this one.
Debian- everything is built off of this but I believe Ubuntu improved upon this.
Step 1 pick Distro:
The best I believe is Ubuntu.
Step 2 pick format:
Gnome 3 is the most modern and best looking OpenSUSE and Fedora 15 use this.
Combining Ubuntu with Gnome 3 and losing Unity is a great combo. Thats why using OpenSUSE or Fedora is stupid because Ubuntu is better but can look as good as those distros.
Xubuntu(XFCE format for Ubuntu) is my 2nd favorite it is so fast and light and also looks great.
LM11 is my 3rd. it is great OS but is just very boring and too close to windows.
