Why wont my computer play dvds?

-I have just bought a new dvd, it plays on a dvd player but when I put it into my laptop it wont. It recognizes the dvd is in the drive and even shows the name of the film, but when i either double click on it or right click and play, it won't. An error message pops up saying, 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.' Any suggestions will be much appreciated to solving this.

P.S. This has happened once before on a different dvdWhat region is the DVD? It will be on the box in a oval shaped globe.

What region is your computer DVD drive set to?

You can find it in Hardware Properties of your drive.

If they are not the same it will not play.
download vlc player, it will play dvds great plus and video format you can chuck at it, avi, wmv etc
is it a copy some drives dont like certain DVD media they can read the name but not load the files. Also know its obvious check there clean.
